Cleft Surgery Workshop

This course has been designed to teach and describe contemporary methods of cleft lip and palate repair using a workshop format.

This two-day course is aimed at ST 3-8 in OMFS, Plastic and ENT specialties

Content

The course includes lectures and practical sessions on:

  • Classification – range and type of deformity
  • Cleft treatment protocols – timing of surgery
  • Cleft lip – anatomy and function
  • Cleft palate – anatomy and function
  • Career pathways – now and the future
  • Workshop 1 – unilateral cleft lip repair
  • Workshop 2 – hard palate and alveolus repair
  • Workshop 3 – bilateral cleft lip repair
  • Workshop 4 – soft palate repair
  • Workshop 5 – soft palate repair
  • Workshop 6 – speech surgery

Format

  • Lectures and discussion sessions
  • Workshops in smaller groups delivered by six experienced cleft surgeons
