Clinical Skills in Spinal Assessment and Management
This highly popular course teaches the skills necessary to assess and initially manage the patients presenting with spinal conditions in the Emergency Department of Outpatients, and ward In-patient management. This course is aimed at CT2-ST4. The fee for this course includes a course dinner on the first night where participants can chat to the highly regarded Faculty from the world of Orthopaedics and Neurosurgery in an informal setting.

Day One
- Assessment and review of course: anatomy, functional anatomy, biomechanics, prediction of injury pattern, neurological consequence of different levels of cord injury
- Spinal injury - clinical and radiological assessment, charts
- Halo application and other external supports
Day Two
- Painful spine history
- Demonstration and practical examination
- Problem based clinical workstations
- Degenerative - cauda equina myelopathy, infection, tumour, children
- Inpatient management of the paralysed and at risk spinal patient
- Paramedical aspects
- Surgical and postoperative considerations in the paralysed patient
- Transfer to and from spinal units
