Decision Making and Judgement in Spinal Surgery

Following the highly successful British Scoliosis Society instructional workshop held at the College in September 2008, The Royal College of Surgeons of England have joined forces with BASS and BSS to bring you these two back-to-back workshops in Spinal Surgery.

Decision Making and Judgement in Spinal Surgery will be held on the second day (6 November 2009) and will take place in the lecture theatre and reception rooms at the College. The purpose of the day is for delegates to present cases where, for whatever reason, the outcome has been less than ideal.

An open discussion will follow each presentation with subsequent prepared comment from an expert orthopaedic and neurosurgical surgeon. There are three main clinical sessions:

  • Decompressive and Non-deformity Degenerative Surgery;
  • Reconstructive Surgery for Tumour, Trauma and Infection; and
  • Deformity Surgery (Paediatric and Adult) and Intradural Surgery.

The ambition is for all to learn from the cases presented.

There is a fourth session on Medico-legal matters with input from NHSLA Medical Defence organisations and the legal profession.

This course can be booked as a stand-alone, one-day course or as a package with Technical Tips and Error Avoidance in Spinal Surgery which will be held on the 5 November 2009. Book both courses together and save £50.
