The Royal College of Surgeons of England is proud to present the second Annual Technical Tips in Error Avoidance in Spinal Surgery and Decision Making and Judgement in Spinal Surgery courses. After a successful pilot of these courses in November 2009, the event will take on a much larger format and will be held in the prestigious Edward Lumley Hall, Lecture Theatre and the state-of-the-art Wolfson Surgical Skills Centre.

Decision Making and Judgement in Spinal Surgery will be held on the second day (13 January 2011) and will take place in the lecture theatre and reception rooms at the College. The purpose of the day is for delegates to present cases where, for whatever reason, the outcome has been less than ideal.

An open discussion will follow each presentation with subsequent prepared comments from an expert neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgeon. There are three main clinical sessions:

  • Decompressive and non-deformity degenerative surgery;
  • Reconstructive surgery for tumour, trauma and infection; and
  • deformity surgery (paediatric and adult) and intradural surgery.

The ambition is for all to learn from the cases presented.

There is a fourth session on medico-legal matters with input from NHSLA Medical Defence organisations and the legal profession.

This course can be booked as a stand-alone, one-day course or as a package with Technical Tips and Error Avoidance in Spinal Surgery which will be held on the 12 January 2011. Book both courses together and save £50.
