Training the Trainers

Training the Trainers aims to build on participant's knowledge of teaching and learning to improve their current practice. This is an interactive course with practical examples throughout. It is unique as it is taught by both a highly skilled surgeon alongside an educator and each course is tailored to meet the needs of the participant.

If the course is full or you cannot attend on the above dates and you are interested in receiving details regarding future courses, you can register your interest.

Fellows and members of this College (at the time of application) may claim a discount of 10% for courses where bookings are processed by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This discount is also available to members of the College’s new Associate Scheme.

For applications received via the online booking system, the discount is automatically deducted from your total. If you are using the application form, the discount must be claimed by indicating membership discount in the discount type box under payment details.

For regional Training the Trainers courses please submit your application to the centre one month before the course at the latest.

If you are not in a UK training post and are unsure of the level to which your knowledge and experience would correspond, you can get more information on the UK surgical pathway. Alternatively, if the course is open for bookings, please apply using the downloadable form, and attach your CV for approval.

Content

The programme for this course will include:

  • Identify appropriate opportunities for small group teaching
  • Discuss techniques for facilitating the group process
  • How to plan and structure a teaching session
  • Demonstrate a four stage approach to the teaching of clinical skills
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Develop an action plan for change in practice
  • Highlight relevant issues arising from the Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP)

  • Practical exercises with a focused session on teaching clinical skills
  • Participant lectures and group work
