Facilities

The department's practical courses take place in the College's purpose-built surgical skills teaching and training facilities.

Wolfson Surgical Skills Centre

The UK's leading cadaveric dissection centre, fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

WSSC with surgeons
  • A purpose built cadaveric dissection workshop to simulate the operating conditions of a modern hospital;
  • Specially designed dissection tables with integrated services to accommodate up to 36 participants;
  • State of the art audio visual facilities with each dissecting table provided with a mounted screen for close-up viewing of procedures;
  • Large wall mounted plasma screen to facilitate links to other lecture areas in the College, or externally to other national or international venues; and
  • Two smaller demonstrations rooms for small group work.

Clinical Skills Unit

The College’s state-of-the-art Clinical Skills Unit was opened by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal in March 2009.  The unit provides world class teaching facilities. The unit comprises three main teaching areas:


Skills Area

  • The skills area is designed for bench top models using both plastic and tissue. Eight workstations can accommodate up to 30 people.

Minimal Access Area

Minimal access area
  • The minimal access area can also be used for critical care training. It is serviced by high-tech laparoscopic equipment with all services supplied through boom arms.
  • The skills area and minimal access area can be combined to form one larger teaching area.



Team Skills Training Theatre

Teams Skills Theatre
  • The team skills training theatre comprises a fully equipped operating theatre, recovery area, control room and observation and debrief room.
  • A life-like mannequin can be programmed to deliver emergency scenarios which will be used in theatre team training.
  • Participants' actions can be recorded and discussed in debrief sessions.


Other College facilities

The College has a number of other purpose-built conference and seminar rooms, including two modern and extremely well-equipped lecture theatres seating 300 people and 125 people respectively, and offering the latest technology in audio-visual presentation equipment.

We can also offer three large halls that can be used as catering areas for the lecture theatre users or as stand-alone venues for meetings, dinners or banquets.

The college Media Resources team are able to arrange sophisticated audio-visual set-ups and provide specialist recording and presentational services to all rooms.

Our on-site catering team offer a wide variety of menus and service styles from silver service, seven course meals to hot and cold buffet choices for working events.
