Introduction to the current and historical collections of the library and archives.

Current collections
The collections and facilities in the Lumley Study Centre support the professional development needs of Diplomates, surgical and dental trainees and staff. Collections include:
- Key texts on surgery, anatomy and dentistry
- Print journals relating to surgery, dentistry, medical education and other healthcare issues
- Access to a number of electronic journals and databases (dependent on the library user's relationship with the College)
- CD-ROMs and multimedia packages including the Medika MCQ simulator
Historical collections
The library also houses a unique collection of historical significance. The following materials may be of interest to researchers of the history of medicine and surgery, and genealogy:
- Rare books dating back to the 15th century
- Paintings, prints, drawings and photographs
- Archives including the papers of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from the 19th century onwards
- An extensive collection of manuscripts relating to medicine and surgery from the 16th to the 20th centuries
- A historical collection of print journals
