NHS Evidence - surgery, anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care
This page describes the development process for NHS Evidence - surgery, anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care.
NHS Evidence
The National Library for Health, including the Specialist Libraries, have become part of the new NHS Evidence service. The Specialist Libraries are now known as 'specialist collections'. The Specialist Library for Surgery, Theatres and Anaesthesia has become 'NHS Evidence - surgery, anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care'. It is one of a number of online collections dedicated to the information needs of particular communities of practice.
NHS Evidence - surgery, anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care is an online resource of current, quality assured, evidence based resources for theatre and critical care teams.

Quality assurance
The collection is a partnership between the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and the University Hospitals of Morcambe Bay NHS Trust. Overall clinical leadership is provided by the specialist collection's director Professor Mike Larvin who oversees surgical content. Clinical leads Dr Ranjit Verma (Royal College of Anaesthetists) and Dr Sue Harding (University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust) represent the anaesthetic and perioperative communities respectively and Dr David Treacher represents the interests of the critical care team.
To ensure that the information in the collection is the most current available and relevant to UK practice, there is a team of Topic Advisors to look after specific subject areas and advise the Information Specialists when needed. The External Reference Panel represents orgnisations with an interest in the specialist collection. The panel ensures that the collection reflects the information needs of their communities.
