The College possesses one of the finest historical medical collections, including many rare and unique items. The collections are particularly strong in anatomy and surgery, with comparative anatomy and natural history also well represented.
Material for the library was initially purchased to support staff working with the Hunterian Collection now housed in the Hunterian Museum. The first recorded purchases were Stubbs' 'Anatomy of the Horse' and Camper's 'Description d'un Elephant'. Please see Library history for further information.
You are welcome to use our collections for research. The rarity and condition of some items may place restrictions on access and copying, but we will do our best to meet your needs. Please see our Using the library section. for more details
