The Royal College of Surgeons would like to congratulate Professor David Jayne who has today been awarded funding to conduct research on new developments in minimally invasive colorectal surgery. Professor Jayne’s research will look at advancing surgical techniques to treat patients with bowel cancer including robotics, biosensors and fluorescent guidance.
Professor Norman Williams, President of the Royal College of Surgeons, said:
“It is great to see Professor Jayne awarded the opportunity to develop a research programme that will have direct benefits for patients and healthcare providers. Surgical research has been in decline in recent years and so it is heartening to see investment in this vitally important area. The RCS welcomes the NIHR’s commitment to promote and foster medical research and we look forward to hearing more about Professor Jayne’s progress as he takes his ideas from theory to theatre.”
Professor Jayne is one of eight professors who have been awarded an NIHR professorship and medical research funding. More information on the NIHR can be found here.
