How to Become a Fellow or a Member

For those seeking Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, the main route to membership is by examination. Our Examinations & Assessment Department works jointly with our intercollegiate partners to facilitate examination for FRCS, MRCS, FDSRCS, MFDS and MJDF.

Professionals may also join the College by special admission based upon eligibility criteria:-

Fellowship ad eundem

Surgeons may be admitted as Fellows ad eundem provided that if they are working in the UK they are on the Specialist Register or have passed the FRCS examination with one of the other UK or Irish Colleges.  Overseas surgeons must be working in a post equivalent to consultant surgeon and be board certified or equivalent by their country.

Membership ad eundem

Anyone who has passed the Intercollegiate MRCS examination is eligible for membership ad eundem of this College.
