Curators tour, expert talks and family history

Each week the Hunterian Museum offers visitors a chance to find out more about the collections through a curator led tour and talks by expert surgeons and volunteers. Visitors can also discover more about members of their family with a surgical background through the Library genealogy days.

Curator's talk

This summer find out more about the Hunterian Museum collections by joining our weekly curators tour every Wednesday at 1pm. The tour lasts around 45 minutes and explores the life and work of John Hunter through his outstanding collections. The tour is free, open to all and no need to book.

Talk of the Day

Visitors can also discover more about the history of surgery and dentistry, and the natural history, science, art and historical instrument collections at the museum with a short talk delivered by an expert surgeon volunteer. Each talk of the day lasts around 20 minutes and is free to all. Some of the talks coming up in the next week includes:

  • Tuesday 25 August - A taste of John Hunter by Brian Fox
  • Wednesday 26 August - Lost and Found: A dental masterpiece by Mr Peter Jordan LDS RCSEng
  • Friday 28 August - A night with Venus, a lifetime with Mercury by Mr Tim Guerrier FRCS
  • Saturday 29 August - Affairs of the heart by Mr Richard Jeffery FRCS
