On the upper floor of the main museum, a new gallery entitled The Science of Surgery combines surgical instruments and medical equipment, pathological specimens and archive material to provide a unique insight into the development of surgery since the 18th century.
On the upper floor of the main museum, a new gallery entitled The Science of Surgery combines surgical instruments and medical equipment, pathological specimens and archive material to provide a unique insight into the development of surgery since the 18th century.
The displays draw on the first-hand accounts of practitioners and patients to provide an accessible and detailed insight into the surgeon's craft. By including specimens alongside more familiar social history and scientific artefacts it provides a historical link between John Hunter's collection and the work of surgeons today.
