To celebrate a century of industrially manufactured sterile sutures, healthcare suppliers BBraun have launched a competition to find the surgical wound closures of tomorrow.
Supported by The Royal College of Surgeons of England, the German Society of Surgeons and the European Federation of Biotechnology, the competition will award prizes for the best entries from each country as well as an international first prize of €100,000. Entries are split into three broad themes: natural science and technology; medicine and usability; and form and function.
Preliminary ideas can be submitted online before 29 February 2008. The submissions that fulfil all criteria for the competition will be given until the end of June to elaborate on their ideas. The international prizes will be awarded on 5 December 2008 at an award
ceremony in Berlin.
