The Royal College of Surgeons of England welcomes the opportunity to provide evidence to this inquiry. The College hopes that it will consider fully the merits and the shortcomings of the Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) initiative, the failings of the Medical Training Application Service (MTAS) and the need to look forward to the fundamental changes that are required to ensure that the NHS has the correct medical career structure, recruitment procedures and regulatory processes in place that will ensure the highest standard of care and safety for our patients.
