What is The Royal College of Surgeons of England Patient Liaison Group?
The Patient Liaison Group (PLG) was first established in April 1999. It marked a growing recognition that identifying patients' needs and concerns and incorporating them into the setting of standards is increasingly important.
These pages give an overview of the Patient Liaison Group's aims and objectives and current projects.
Does The Royal College of Surgeons of England cover the whole of the UK?
The Royal College of Surgeons of England remit covers England and Wales. Find out more about the role of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
The College is based in London but also has a Welsh office (tel: 02920 682 137) as well as a Northern Regional Office (tel: 0191 223 1247).

The letters after a surgeon's name depends on the College granting the qualification, eg FRCS or FRCSE indicates fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England; FRCS(Ed) or FRCS(Glasg) indicate fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh or Glasgow.
Has the College produced any guidelines on..?
There is a list of publications here. Many guidelines are produced by specialist associations. You could also try the NeLH's Guidelines Finder to find the information you're looking for.
It is the role of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) to produce clinical guidelines, including guidance on interventional procedures. You may want to visit their website, www.nice.org.uk.
How can I find out about medical and health libraries?
Your local library should have information about medical libraries in your area that are open to the public, or you can consult the 'Guide to Libraries and Information Sources in Medicine and Health Care'. 3rd ed. (2000: British Library Science Reference and Information Service, ISBN 0712308563).
