The Patient Liaison Group (PLG) was first established in April 1999. It marked a growing recognition that identifying patients' needs and concerns and incorporating them into the setting of standards is increasingly important.
The College exists to promote and protect the interests of patients and the Patient Liaison Group provides a formal mechanism by which patients are represented within the College. The PLG is committed to achieving improvements for patients needing surgery in both the NHS and the private sector. It is also dedicated to nurturing a constructive dialogue between surgeons and patients, so that each may better understand the needs of the other.
Aims and objectives:
- To support and provide a resource for the College to deliver a professional service that meets the needs and aspirations of patients requiring surgery.
- To communicate areas of patient concern to the College and its Council.
- To respond to requests for comment from Council, its Boards and Committees.
