On 30 July, the College held a high level meeting attended by MPs, representatives of patient safety organisations, and other interested stakeholders. The event saw the launch of training film The Journey, partly funded and produced by the College, followed by a lively discussion of safety issues, which highlighted the importance of addressing ‘human factors’ across the health service. Attendees also visited the College’s new training facility, where the College is already using this film as part of its pilot ‘team theatre skills’ course.
The Journey has been designed for use by different members of the hospital team, and is suitable as a training tool for those with different amounts of experience. It examines the way in which basic errors can cascade into serious safety incidents, and emphasises the importance of systemic good communication between different members of the team.
