Research
The emphasis of the Annals is on clinical research. While we are supportive of research in basic science, these findings are better directed at journals with a track record in these disciplines, ensuring that the results reach the appropriate audience.
Research articles should be less than 2,000 words, with five recent references and a short abstract. Reviewers look for significant results from current research activity.
Trials and observational studies of substantial series will be considered but material must be obtained prospectively and fully documented. Multicentre trials and large surveys should be targeted at specialist journals. Exceptionally, such series will be published as a sponsored supplement following peer review but these articles are more likely to have been generated under the auspices of the College.
