Ethicon Foundation Fund

The Ethicon Foundation Fund promotes international goodwill in surgery by providing financial assistance to Fellows who are travelling abroad for research or training purposes.

Applications are invited for grants from the Ethicon Foundation Fund, established by the generosity of Ethicon Limited. The Fund promotes international goodwill in surgery by providing financial assistance for travel. If you are a Fellow or Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England travelling abroad for research or training purposes you are invited to apply.

Applicants should be sufficiently advanced in their training to benefit from such an experience or be within one year of their appointment as a Consultant, in exceptional circumstances consideration will be given to younger applicants. The fund will make a contribution towards travel expenses up to £1000.

Applications are adjudicated upon by the Advisory Board which meets twice yearly. The Board favours applications which demonstrate that applicants are using their initiative to obtain experience above and beyond that which they would derive from routine exchange or secondment to an overseas centre.

Occasionally, grants are made to senior applicants visiting an overseas centre to teach rather than learn. In general, the Board does not favour grants to enable an applicant to attend a meeting, course or conference overseas, neither does it favour grants to support the travel of an applicant's family. As a condition of the award, successful candidates will be required to submit a report within three months of their return from their visit.

All Applications must be made prior to embarking on your visit.

Applications must include the following;

  1. Completed application form;
  2. A signed letter of support from the Head of Department, or Consultant, under whom the applicant is currently working;
  3. A signed letter of support from another, independent, referee.
  4. A signed letter of confirmation from the institute you are visiting.

The deadline for this fund is 29th April 2010

All expenses should be given in sterling
