Tribute or Honour a Loved One
Giving in memory or honour
A wonderful way to mark the memory of a loved one or honour an achievement is to dedicate an item to them under our Conserve our Collections scheme. This initiative gives the donor the opportunity to choose an item that will mean something to the family or the recipient. The Collections have been divided into three areas: Archives, Books and Objects and Specimens.
The Alban Barros D’Sa Bursary is an annual Education bursary established with a donation from his family in his memory following his death on 24 January 2015. Alban Barros D’Sa had a particular interest in teaching and training the surgeons of the future, and the bursary provides up to £1,000 towards course fees of an RCS skills course in upper or lower GI surgery or Colorectal surgery. Mr Barros D'Sa graduated from the University of Bristol in 1967 and achieved FRCS Edinburgh in 1972. He became a Consultant Surgeon in Coventry and Rugby in 1979, pursuing his special interests of Upper GI, laparoscopic and thyroid surgery. He was an FRCS Examiner in Edinburgh, and Laparoscopic Surgery Training Course Convenor in London, and was awarded FRCS ad eundem from the RCS England in 1997.
