International Women's Day 2019
International Women's Day is the perfect time for us to celebrate the success of our Women in Surgery network. It is also an opportunity for us to highlight the opportunities that we have to improve the gender balance in surgery. The ratio of male to female consultant surgeons in the UK is approximately 8:1 and our Women in Surgery network is on a mission to change that.
Women in Surgery Twitter
With almost 6,000 members in our network, we think it's time to provide a place for informal and regular networking and information sharing. This year, we're excited to launch our new Women in Surgery Twitter account on International Women's Day! Follow us @WomenSurgeonsUK to hear about upcoming opportunities, gain more information and news and connect with thousands of other female surgeons.
As well as the launch of our Women in Surgery Twitter, we are also launching a number of opportunities on International Women's Day. If the below roles don't suit you at this time, keep an eye out for our e-newsletters and tweets regarding opportunities throughout the year.
Humans of Surgery
This year, as part of National Careers Week, we launched our Humans of Surgery campaign. The campaign aims to showcase the reality of being a surgeon, in all its exciting, sometimes difficult but ultimately rewarding glory! You can read the five stories we shared on the National Careers Week page, including stories from two members of our Women in Surgery network. You can also join the conversation and share your own story on Twitter, using the hashtag #HumansOfSurgery
