Professional Behaviours in Aesthetic Surgery (PBAS)

Are you familiar with all the recent changes and the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had, and will have had, on many cosmetic surgery practices? The landscape of cosmetic surgery has changed so much over the last few years in terms of legislation, marketing and promotion, especially with the introduction and acceptance of more virtual consultations.

We all need to ensure that we are continually delivering and promoting the very best standards of cosmetic surgery. If you are an established practitioner already, or just starting out on your journey, this course is designed for you to ensure you are delivering the absolute best practice possible. This course will cover topics such as ‘Standards’, ‘Marketing’, ‘The Patient’ and ‘The Consultation Journey’ to give you as a learner and as someone running a practice or indeed working within a practice, oversight into these essential areas.

Professional Behaviours in Aesthetic Surgery is an accredited online course that forms part of the Intercollegiate Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme. The Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme is designed to recognise and promote high standards and good practice.

The course has been developed by The Royal College of Surgeons of England in collaboration with the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons.

Professional Behaviour is one of the most significant areas that impact patient satisfaction, quality and safety in aesthetic surgery.

Course participants complete approximately 13 hours of online learning developed by subject matter experts before attending a two-hour virtual discussion facilitated by expert faculty in their fields. Both online learning and the synchronous virtual discussion are mandatory. We use some of the themes you will learn about during the online learning as part of the live discussion and so you will not be able to attend the virtual discussion before completing all the online learning.

Please note that the Professional Behaviours in Aesthetic Surgery course is just one element of the Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme. Attending the course alone does not certify an individual under the Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme. If you wish to apply for certification, you can register and begin your online application prior to completing the course.

We strongly recommend commencing your online application as soon as possible, as it will take a little time to complete. If you require further information regarding the Cosmetic Surgery Certification Scheme, please contact the helpdesk.

Participants will have to complete the course (e-learning and online facilitated discussion) within six months of enrolment. Please ensure that you have the availability to complete the course within the above timescale.

Please see below virtual discussion dates. Places are allocated on first-come first-served basis. Upon completion of the online course you will be automatically enrolled on the next available virtual discussion forum held at least two weeks from the date of the online course completion.

Please contact education@rcseng.ac.uk if you wish to reschedule.

All forum sessions will be delivered via Zoom and the timings are typically 9.30am-12pm for a morning session and 12.30-3pm for an afternoon session. A zoom link will be emailed to you a few days before the virtual discussion session.
