Working Group Volunteers – Surgical Anatomy Training

The Learning Innovation team at the Royal College of Surgeons of England are launching a project to broaden the reach of our surgical anatomy education offer, including preparation for the MRCS Part B Examination. Our aim is to create a suite of surgical anatomy learning materials for both a UK and global audience.

The project is being chaired by Professor Richard Tunstall from Warwick University and we want to bring in new technology to enhance and diversify the learning experience.

We are looking for volunteers to build a working group from a range of specialities to ensure that the approach and materials we develop meet the needs of surgical trainees. This includes:

MRCS OSCE Examiners with a background in education and educational theory
Pathologists
Anatomists
Physiologists
Consultant Surgeons
Surgical trainees (including those who have recently passed the examination; and those who have taken it in the last 3-5 years ago)
Radiologists/Interventional radiologist
Surgical Care Practitioners
Medical students with a strong interest in surgery

A knowledge of educational theory and distance and technology-based learning would help, but we will be combining the knowledge and experience of all of those on the team. You will be working alongside members of the Royal College of Surgeons’ Learning Innovation team including Educators, Learning Technologist and experienced freelancers such as Learning Designers and Editors.

This would be a voluntary position, but full expenses would be paid. As a working group member, we would ask you to attend working group meetings, and you may be asked to work to help with the writing of learning material outside of these meetings.

If you are interested in being involved or would just like to find out more information, please contact the Project Manager Timothy Lowe at edufaculty@rcseng.ac.uk
