The Patient Liaison Group (PLG) ensures patients are represented in all areas of the College's activity and additionally works independently to achieve improvements in surgical services across the NHS.
A selection of the PLG's recent achievements can be found below:
The PLG has responded to multiple government and stakeholder consultations helping to influence NHS services.
The PLG has developed a diary for patients undergoing surgery called 'It's OK to ask', which encourages patients to ask questions about their treatment and has space for them to record their thoughts.
PLG involvement in RCS committees includes representation on College Council, professional standards in surgery, dental surgery, and research in surgery and the training of surgeons. At all of these committees the PLG ensures that the effect changes will have on patients is considered.]
The PLG works with committees to ensure that communication skills are prioritised appropriately.
