Research Fellowship in Diversity Equity and Inclusion in Surgery
Deadline for application: Wednesday 1 June 2022.
RCS England is seeking to award up to two fellowships that will fund a trainee’s salary to undertake research for a period of three to twelve months. The exact details of any awards made will be dependent on the nature and type of research project proposed, and the quality and range of applications received.
We welcome applications for research projects in any area related to diversity, equity and inclusion in surgery.
We are particularly interested in receiving applications from areas where research is at present underdeveloped, and where new and original research can take place.
We are also open to working in partnership with trainees (and potentially institutions) who already have access to funding – or have made application to other funders – to support a collaborative approach to excellence in research in this space.
The research must be undertaken in the UK.
The fellowships will cover salary, on-costs and some running expenses. Applicants may undertake research relating to any aspect of surgery or surgical care. The main criteria for those interested in applying are to delineate important research questions, with an appropriate study design, which can be completed within the period of the fellowship (see below).
The research can be self-contained or part of a wider research programme.
Start date: Any fellowships awarded should start no later than March 2023.
Supervision: The supervisor plays a key role in helping with the writing and structure of the application, as well as offering support during the research.
All applications are rigorously assessed by a panel of experts to ensure that the research, surgeon, supervisor and facilities are of a high standard, and that the proposed work will be valid, beneficial and original.
At the end of each period of research, the fellow is asked to submit an evaluation and a report along with details of publications and presentations.
Eligibility
Subscribing trainee members of the College in a training post, or trainees who have passed the MCQ papers and will sit the final MRCS examination at this College, are eligible to apply.
