A new report has called cosmetic procedure practices and promotion in the UK a ‘cause for serious concern’.
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics’ report on cosmetic procedures - both surgical and non-surgical - calls for a ban on offering ‘walk in’ cosmetic procedures to young people; a complete overhaul of the regulation of products, such as Botox and dermal fillers, used in cosmetic procedures; and proper regulation of the industry.

HS England performance data published today for April 2017 shows that there has been a 5% increase in the total number of patients waiting for planned treatment since April 2016. There were 3.78 million people on the waiting list at the end of April 2017 compared to 3.60 million in the same month last year. The number of delayed days also rose from 168,018 in April 2016 to 177,137 in April 2017 – a 5.43% increase.

New analysis by the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) at The Royal College of Surgeons has found that approximately 80% of children between the age of one and two didn’t visit an NHS dentist in the 12 months leading up to March 31st 2017, despite guidance saying children should start dental check-ups when they develop their first tooth.

A new analysis of waiting times data by the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) has found that in March 2017 the number of patients waiting more than six months (26 weeks) for treatment was 126,188 – a rise of 180% in four years. In March 2013, the year when six month waiters were at their lowest level, 45,054 patients were waiting more than six months for treatment.

The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) has today (31 May) launched a Postgraduate Certificate in Surgery. The new nationally recognised qualification has been developed by experienced surgeons across specialties.
