Surgeons respond to NHS England’s ‘Improving the working lives of Doctors in Training’

Responding to NHS England’s ‘Improving the working lives of Doctors in Training’, Mr Tim Mitchell, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England said: 
  
“We have been calling for many of the actions proposed by NHS England to support trainees for some time, so while they are welcome, they must now be implemented at pace and with Trust leaders held to account for delivery.  
 
“Our surgical workforce census exposed significant challenges for surgical trainees.  Half (52%) also said there is a lack of adequate time for training - so as well as supporting today’s actions, we strongly encourage the NHS to work with us on ensuring dedicated time for surgical training, including contracted time for trainers.”
