Discounted rates are available to members who have retired from the profession, are working part-time, or are unemployed. We also waive all membership fees for those on parental/maternity/paternity leave for the duration of this leave, recognising that this can be a financially challenging time for new parents. To find out whether you are eligible to benefit from these discounts, please contact the membership team using the details below. Please be sure to get in touch at your earliest convenience, as remissions may be backdated no further than the 1st of each month.

*Our First 4 membership package offers a reduced membership rate for affiliate members who are UK trainees in their first four years post-MRCS.

Reclaiming your tax

The Royal College of Surgeons of England is an HMRC approved (List 3) professional body.

If you are a UK taxpayer, the fee you pay for your membership may be tax-deductible (eligible for tax relief).

We suggest that if you wish to claim tax relief against your professional fees, it would be best to contact your local HMRC office, noting to them that the Royal College of Surgeons of England is an approved (List 3) professional body. 

You may also be able to claim tax relief against the cost of your MRCS and FRCS exams. Find out more about claiming tax relief for your job expenses.

Please let us know at the earliest convenience if your circumstances have changed as we are only able to apply adjustments from the 1st of the current month.

Getting a receipt for purchases and subscriptions with us

You can print receipts for any of your online transactions through this website by following the instructions below.

  1. Log in to the website
  2. Visit your transaction history on the account dashboard
  3. Locate the transaction you wish to obtain a receipt for and click on the 'View Printable Receipt' button.
  4. Wait for the receipt preview to appear then click on the 'Print Receipt' button at the bottom of the page.
