Physician Assistant

A physician assistant (formerly called 'physician associate' - a term which may still be used outside of England) is a healthcare professional who provides a supporting role to the medical team. A small number work as members of surgical teams under consultant supervision. In 2025, the government commissioned a review of physician assistants which set out recommendations on their future role and implementation is currently in progress.
