The aim of this interactive course is to provide you with an in-depth theoretical and practical overview of CO2 laser treatment for tumours of the larynx and pharynx.  By the end of the course you will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of the approach, the scope of the technique and how it compares with other contemporary procedures to manage the same conditions.

Day one

Therapeutic principles, functional and oncological results of laser microsurgery for:

  • Early and advanced glottic cancer
  • Early and moderately advanced supraglottic carcinoma
  • Oropharyngeal tumours
  • Hypopharyngeal tumours
  • Starting up a transoral laser surgery service in the UK
  • Questions and discussions
  • Evening course meal

Day two

  • Live operating at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool

Day three

  • Further live operating at University Hospital Aintree, Liverpool
  • Selective neck dissection – principles and results
  • Advantages of transoral laser surgery and selective neck dissection in comparison with standard therapies
  • Future treatment of tumours of the upper aerodigestive tract in the UK
