Advanced Trauma Life Support - ATLS Provider status extensions

Due to the ongoing pandemic, course cancellations and growing demand for ATLS® course places, The Royal College of Surgeons of England in agreement with the American College of Surgeons will extend the ATLS® Provider status for ATLS® Providers who completed ATLS® course in the UK and whose ATLS® Provider status expires/d between 13 September 2019 and July 2021 (inclusive).

You will need to purchase and complete the ATLS® e-learning modules and your ATLS® Provider status will be extended for 12 months from your most recent ATLS® Provider expiry date.

If you do not require a valid ATLS® Provider status at present but wish to attend the ATLS® Reverification course in the future, the grace period to attend the ATLS® Reverification course following the expiry of your ATLS® Provider status has been extended:

• 18 months grace period if your status expired between 13 September 2019 and 31 December 2020
• 12 months grace period if your status expired/expires in 2021

ATLS e-learning

Purchasing ATLS e-learning will give you access to 13 ATLS modules, pre-course MCQs and a pdf of the ATLS manual. You will receive an automated notification from RCS with your log in details to access the ATLS Reverification course on the VLE. Your access will be valid for one year from the date of purchase.

We strongly recommend that you complete the e-learning in full to refresh your trauma management knowledge and skills.

Completion of Module 1: Initial assessment and management and the pre-course MCQs is mandatory to extend your Provider status.

Your progress will be tracked. On the completion of the mandatory parts of the e-learning your ATLS Provider status will be extended for 12 months.

This opportunity will be available for a limited time only.

FAQs

1. Q: My ATLS® Provider status expired in February 2020 so although I am eligible to apply I won’t benefit from the scheme.

A: If you take part your ATLS® Provider status will be extended by 12 months (until February 2021) and you will have a 12 month grace period to then complete the ATLS® Reverification course - you have until February 2022 to complete the course.

2. Q: My ATLS® Provider status expires in November 2021. Can I apply for extension?
A: This scheme is currently available to ATLS® Providers whose status expired in 2020 and up to July 2021 (inclusive) so you are not eligible.

3. Q: Is there a time limit for the e-learning completion
A: Access to the e-learning is valid for one year therefore you will have to complete the e-learning within this period. Your ATLS® Provider status will not be extended unless you have completed the mandatory parts of the e-learning.
