Fellowship of the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK)

Overview

Fellowship is the highest award offered by the Faculty of General Dental Practice (UK) of the Royal College of Surgeons, and is a pinnacle of achievement for the profession. It merits the diversity of an individual’s expertise, encompassing their achievements in delivering excellence in primary dental care, their ongoing commitment to professional development and reflective practice, and diligence in upholding the highest clinical and/or non-clinical standards.

Eligibility

A general dental practitioner is eligible to apply for fellowship if he/she meets the following eligibility criteria: 

  • postgraduate qualification/s
  • registration with the General Dental Council (GDC) in the UK (or by an equivalent body approved by the Faculty)
  • full FGDP(UK) membership for three consecutive years
  • be of good standing with the GDC and FGDP(UK)

Assessment format

A candidate may enrol for the fellowship assessment once they have been formally registered as a candidate by the Faculty. Become a registered candidate

Fellowship by assessment involves the submission of a portfolio of evidence, followed by an interview.

The portfolio assessment requires the candidate to submit a portfolio evidencing his/her high standard of work and achievements in primary dental care and his/her commitment to professional development and reflective practice. All candidates will be required to submit their portfolio via an online platform accessible via the internet.

The peer review interview is conducted in person at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, 35-43 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, WC2A 3PE, and will require candidates to discuss his/her portfolio in further detail and outline his/her future aspirations in dentistry. Candidates will be invited to attend an interview once the portfolio requirements have been met.
