Exam Overview

This is a temporary booking page for candidates contacted by email to complete payment for the Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS) Part 3 exams in October 2025 and February 2026.

Due to system restrictions, the year of both exams is displayed as 2026. If you are completing payment for the October 2025 exam, please book the exam marked as October 2026 and you will be booked onto the 2025 exam.

Places are not allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, so you have time to complete this step. The booking window closes at 5pm on the closing date.

Any bookings from candidates who are have not received an invite to complete payment by email will be cancelled. Refunds in this case may take up to nine weeks to process and will be subject to a 20% administrative fee.

Eligibility

Education and Training Requirements

An overview of LDS Part 3 candidate eligibility is provided below. Please read the LDS exam regulations for a thorough overview of the eligibility requirements.

To be eligible to enter the LDS Part 3 exam all candidates must:

  • Produce a current certificate of competence in Basic Life Support (BLS) from a recognised centre in the UK within three months (before or after) of passing part 3 of the examination.
  • Submit within three months (before or after) of passing Part 3, authenticated Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV certificates from an accredited UK laboratory, which shows a full serological status. No one with evidence of an infective risk to patients will be permitted to enter the examination.

Candidates will also be required to sign a health declaration, which states:

I declare that to the best of my knowledge I am not suffering from, nor am I a carrier of, any infectious disease, blood borne virus or other transmissible disease, which might jeopardise the well-being of patients. I further declare that I have no reason to believe that such infectious or transmissible diseases may be present. I understand that before the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS England) can award the LDS and inform the General Dental that I have passed the LDS and am eligible to apply for the UK Dental Register, I must provide:

Original Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV certificate, which have been authenticated from an accredited UK Laboratory to show my full serological status.

The certificates must be no more than three months old and be presented to the RCS Examinations Department within three months (before or after) of sitting the LDS Part 2 examination.

Exemptions

Format of Examination

The Part 3 exam of the Licence in Dental Surgery (LDS) will be held over a one day period and consist of one section:

  • an 180-minute operative assessment on a dental manikin, designed to test your practical clinical dental skills.

a) Improving the oral health of individuals, families and groups in the community
