Life after MFDS - Support Throughout Your Career

The MFDS is just one step along your career path. Where you go next is up to you, but expert support after passing the examination is available no matter where you choose to work.

Faculty Membership

As for all Royal College membership qualifications, the MFDS requires you to maintain membership of the awarding Royal College in order to be able to use the MDFS post-nominals. In this case you would join The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS Eng).

The Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) is a professional body committed to enabling oral health care professionals to provide patients with the highest possible standards of practice and care. The FDS offers you the support you need irrespective of whether you have a particular interest in one of the dental specialties; and if you do intend to specialise, the FDS can offer continued expert support in your chosen field.

As a member of the FDS, you will receive many benefits including:

A voice in the profession

The FDS speaks out on matters relating to oral health and dental education and engages with a wide range of stakeholders at all levels.

Courses and continuing professional development

The FDS is a leading provider of postgraduate dental education and training. Whether you want to move into a specialism or to enhance existing skills, the FDS provides numerous opportunities to do so.

Specialist publications

The FDS produces a wide range of publications. The flagship publication is the Faculty Dental Journal which includes research and opinion on all matters of interest to the oral health care team.

The FDS promotes, supports and rewards research in all aspects of oral health care.

Oral health care practitioners are supported through a range of national clinical guidelines that provide clarity on good clinical and professional practice.
