Online archive of Specialty Updates

17 Jul 2019

Specialty Updates are concise summaries of the latest evidence in a particular surgical field, designed to support RCS members in their use of evidence, guidelines and new technology in their practice, produced by the Library’s Current Awareness Team of Information Specialists and overseen by clinical specialist advisors.

All past issues of the Updates are now archived on SurgiCat+ (the Library catalogue). On SurgiCat+ itself, you can select ‘CAS Updates’ from the drop-down menu to the left of the search bar to restrict your searches to the Updates.

Browse through up to two years’ worth of evidence for 11 surgical specialties. If you no longer have the email version of an Update, or if you haven’t been receiving them at all, every issue is now collected here as a freely-available PDF, to which you can refer whenever you need. Where full text to the articles is available, you can find links by searching for the publication in SurgiCat+.

We plan to add all future Updates to this online archive six months after they are emailed to Members and Fellows. While the email Updates can be used simply as an easy way to keep abreast of the latest research, guidance and policy, this archive will make it easier to find and use past Updates to highlight areas for research and teaching, CPD, and reading for journal clubs.

If you are not yet a member of the RCS, join us today to develop your knowledge and skills and get the support you need for your career.
