Event Overview

This year’s Combined Royal Colleges lecture will be given by the 2020 recipient of the Combined Royal Colleges Award, Mr Pankaj Chandak. He will be introduced by Darrin Hawkins MSc AIS ARPS, chair of the RPS Medical Group.

Although transplantation is the treatment of choice for end-organ failure, several challenges exist. A major challenge in paediatric organ transplantation is implanting an adult sized donor organ into the abdomen of a small child recipient, who may also have complex structural abnormalities. This lecture will detail these challenges and how the current use of innovations and patient-specific 3D printing may be useful in helping overcome some of these, in addition to its wider applications.

Pankaj is Specialist Registrar in Transplant Surgery at Guy’s, Evelina London, and Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and a Research Fellow at King’s College London.

The lecture will be delivered live in Bristol and will be live streamed. Booking is required for both options. To book for the streamed event click here.

The Combined Royal Colleges Award was established by The RPS in 1958, in collaboration with the Royal College of Physicians of London, the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, joined in 2018 by the Royal Colleges of Psychiatrists and Opthalmologists.
