Event Overview

Due to factors outside of our control, the College has regrettably taken the decision to cancel the Out at the College 2023 conference.

We are sorry for the disappointment and any inconvenience this has caused.

On a positive note, we are looking at some online content to mark Pride Month, and I will be in touch with you as soon as it is confirmed.

Following on from the hugely successful first Out at the College event held on March 2022, we are delighted to announce that we will host the next edition of our conference for LGBTQ+ surgeons and allies in Manchester, on Friday 16 June 2023.

Members of our Pride in Surgery Forum (PRiSM) will be joined by leading names in the surgical and broader healthcare community who are working to champion diversity and inclusion. Expect to hear updates on the College’s work on DEI in surgery, the next steps for PRiSM, and a fantastic programme of talks, and networking opportunities, and for your chance to help us shape the conversation on LGBTQ+ issues in the surgical profession.

For those unable to join us in-person in Manchester, this conference will also have the option to attend virtually. Tune in via our events platform to access the talks, participate in the activities, share your views and questions, and network with other delegates and speakers.

If you are on parental leave or need to bring in a child with you for any other reason, please contact the team. We are happy to accommodate children to support parents' attendance at all our events.

Both in-person and online attendance will be awarded up to 5 CPD points by the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Why attend?

This full-day conference, followed by a networking drinks reception, is aimed at all LGBTQ+ surgeons, members of the extended surgical care team, and also surgeons and healthcare professionals who, as allies, are interested in championing diversity in surgery.

If you are on parental leave or need to bring in a child with you for any other reason, please contact the RCS England events. We are happy to accommodate children to support parents' attendance at all our events.

Who should come?

Any member of the surgical team who identifies as LGBTQ+ or any ally, and anyone who is interested in supporting their LGBTQ+ colleagues and teams. The event is open to all grades from medical students and the wider team to consultants, SAS surgeons, surgical leaders, and everyone in between.

Before participating in a PRISM event, whether as an attendee or speaker, make sure to read through our Attendee and Speaker Briefing document.

Which ticket should I select?

Tickets are available to attend in-person and online.

Online tickets will give you access to the virtual event and in-person tickets will give you access to the virtual event and the in-person event at Manchester University.

Ticket prices

As part of our commitment to inclusivity, we aimed to keep ticket prices to a minimum. Our members and fellows will always benefit from discount on tickets for our events. Eligible people may benefit from joining our affiliate membership, as this will give you access to the cheapest tickets, and a range of other benefits, for only £15 per year.

However, we are keen for anyone who would like to attend our event to be able to, so if the cost of the ticket is a barrier for you attending please contact our events team as we are able to offer a number of reduced price tickets for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Please note for foundation doctors and medical students we advise joining as an affiliate to access the reduced price.
