Event Overview

Studies had revealed a high level of burnout among surgeons in the UK prior to the outbreak of COVID-19. With the stress that the pandemic has placed on the NHS, pressure on our medical professionals has also increased. Join us on Monday 2 November for our new RCS webinar to find out how you can support yourself and your team through the second wave by creating a positive working environment.

Chair RCS Vice President Tim Goodacre, Dame Clare Gerada, Medical director for GP mental health service the NHS Practitioner Health Programme (PHP) and a partner at the Hurley Group. Tan Arulampalam - Consultant Surgeon will be discussing how to combat burnout during the pandemic and answering any questions you might have.

Dame Clare Gerada is chair of Doctors in Distress and Medical Director of NHS Practitioner Health. Her new book Beneath the White Coat: Doctors, their minds and mental health is published by Routledge this October at £22.99 and can be purchased here. All royalties will be donated to Doctors in Distress.

Why should you tune in?

  • Receive tips on how to prevent burnout and build resilience personally and in the surgical team.
  • Gain an insight into how the RCS and other organisations are working to support surgeons and the theatre teams.
  • Discuss how physical health and wellbeing can impact performance and mental health.

We want to ensure that we are supporting you and providing you with the most helpful information for yourself and your peers. Please get in touch with our events team with any questions or further topics you would like to be discussed during this session.

For those unable to join the livestream on Monday, the recording will be made available on our RCS webinar page.
