RCS Diplomate ceremonies FAQs

How and when do I get invited to a ceremony?

Once you have passed the exams listed you will receive an invitation to join the RCS. Once you have joined, you will you will eligible to receive an invitation to a diplomate presentation ceremony. 

 you are unable to attend the ceremony that you have been invited to, we can either post your certificate to you, or, you will be invited to the following one. The deadline to join the November 2019 Ceremonies has passed - if you join the RCS between now and 11 November 2019 you will be invited to the ceremonies on 11 March 2020 which will be held at the Law Society in London. We send invites 4-5 months ahead of a ceremony so please keep an eye on your inbox and book early to avoid disappointment. 

Booking tickets 

All tickets are sold on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

Tickets can sell out fast, so please keep an eye on your emails and book early to avoid disappointment. 

All Diplomates need to book a ticket, free of charge.  If you do not book a diplomate ticket you will not be able to attend this ceremony. If you need to arrange travel, leave or a visa please book your ticket first and cancel if you are no longer able to attend.

If you are no longer able to attend your ceremony please contact the Events Team to reallocate your ticket. 

When entering your name, please ensure this is correct as this is how it will appear in the booklet and announced on stage

Guest tickets

Main ceremony hall
We are able to offer you a maximum of two guest tickets for the main hall initially. More guest tickets may be available on a first come first served basis if capacity allows. If you require more than two guest tickets please include the request with your booking.

£35 Adult

£15 Child (8 - 15 years old)

Live streaming room
Live streaming tickets are only for those adults accompanying a child under 8 years old. If you purchase a ticket and are not accompanying a child the team will be in touch to cancel the ticket.

£20 - Adult

Free - Child

Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Are there additional guest tickets available?

If you would like to purchase additional tickets, please request this at the time of booking. Additional tickets are allocated on a 'first come first served' basis if we have capacity in the ceremony hall

There are no tickets left for my ceremony, what do I do now?

You are able to add yourself to our waiting list, which can be accessed via clicking the ‘tickets’ button on the Eventbrite page and selecting ‘join waitlist’. 

Once you have added yourself to the waiting list, you will be contacted automatically if a ticket becomes available to you.  You will then have 48 hours to book the available ticket. After 48 hours it will be released to the next person on the waitlist. 

I am unable to attend my ceremony, will I be invited to another?

Yes. If you are unable to attend the November 2019 ceremonies, you will be invited to go to our next one which will be on 11 March 2020. Invitation for the March 2020 ceremony will be sent in early December 2019.

Applying for a visa?

If you require a visa in order to attend your presentation ceremony, please get in touch with the RCS Events Team once you have booked your ceremony ticket and we will provide you with a copy of your invitation, including key information, to support your application. 

I do not wish to attend a ceremony, can my certificate be sent to me by post?

Yes. If you do not wish to attend a ceremony, please get in touch with the RCS Events Team and we can arrange for your certificate to be posted to your home address. 

Key timings on the day

For our November 2019 ceremony, timings are as follows: 

12 noon Registration opens

12.45pm Doors open for seats to be taken

1.30pm Registration closes

2pm Ceremony starts

3.30pm Celebratory reception

Please note that timings of future ceremonies will vary and the above timings are a guide. Please see your ceremony confirmation for confirmed details.  

What do I have to wear?

All Diplomates are required to wear a gown and a mortarboard. Gowns are ordered directly from Ede and Ravenscroft (not the RCS). To order your gown and mortarboard, an email with a link to Ede and Ravenscroft will be sent to you after 30 September 2019. 

Will my seats be reserved?

Diplomates seats are reserved. You will be assigned a seat number that corresponds to the order of the procession in which you appear in the programme.

Guest seating is unreserved.

Please advise us if you or any of your guests have any access or seating requirements, e.g. wheel-chair access/hearing loop access. 

Personal belongings

Once you have received your diploma you will not be returning to the same seat as you were originally assigned. It is therefore essential that you do not have any personal belongings (e.g. handbags, coats, phones etc.)  with you when you enter the ceremony hall. Please leave them with a guest or use the cloakroom facilities provided.
