Future Surgery 2020 conference announced
07 Nov 2019
We have today launched a new surgical conference, with delivery partner CloserStill Media, to take place on 11–12 November 2020 at the Excel, London.
This is the first conference of its kind and aims to bring together both surgeons and the wider surgical community with a programme of informative, educational and inspirational content that serves to encourage discussion, networking and professional development across the mix of surgical roles and specialties.
The programme, being developed by an Advisory Board led by RCS Council Member and Chair of the Future of Surgery Commission Mr Richard Kerr, will explore themes relating to the future of surgery including:
- new technological advances
- anticipated changes to the surgical team and the delivery of surgery
- evolving training needs including human factors and ‘soft’ skills.
Andrew Reed, Chief Executive of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said:
‘Our Commission on the Future of Surgery predicted that surgery will be transformed for millions of patients by a new wave of technologies. Driven by changes in digital technologies and our fast evolving understanding of genomics, innovations are expected to affect how we undertake surgery, and how we train future surgeons.
‘Against that backdrop, the RCS firmly believes that now is the right time for the Future Surgery conference and exhibition. Alongside the conference organisers, we aim to deliver a high-quality ‘must attend’ event that will be useful for our members and the multidisciplinary teams they work with.
‘We look forward to welcoming colleagues to what promises to be an exciting two days of thought-provoking insight, training and engaging supplier content.’
Delegate tickets are expected to be available from January 2020 and the RCS will be offering complimentary tickets to pre-registered members.
