Day Surgery eLearning

What you'll learn

This module explores key aspects of day surgery and relevant care pathways. It includes an overview of day surgery principles, and then goes on to look in more detail at aspects such as preoperative care, postoperative care and enhanced recovery programmes.

Participants will gain insights into the management of co-morbidities and diabetic patients. There is also a module describing local anaesthesia procedures. All modules highlight relevant NICE and NHS guidelines where appropriate.

Learning Outcomes

  • Ambulatory emergency care
  • Enhanced recovery programmes (ERAS)
  • Postoperative care, complications, and follow-up
  • Managing diabetes

At the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Relate the principles of day surgery.
  • Discuss the guidelines for both patient admission and discharge.
  • Explain the use of anaesthesia with reference to frequent day surgery procedures.
  • Identify how patients with common co-morbidities need to be cared for in day case surgery.
  • Outline the key considerations of post operative care.

Format

This is an interactive online module within the RCS e-learning platform. Following the nine main e-learning sessions, participants must complete an Assessment session consisting of 28 questions. You must achieve at least 75% on this assessment to receive your certificate.

You will have access to this module for 6 months, which you can also extend.
