What does it mean to be a surgeon in conflict zones?

Dr Hashem Yaseen is undertaking a research project as part of his MEd in Surgical Education at Imperial College London.

The research aims to examine how civilian surgeons working in conflict settings develop their professional identities through their participation in communities of practice. Under the supervision of Professor Linda de Cossart, the study seeks to understand the lived experiences, learning processes, and social interactions that shape how surgeons see themselves and their roles in challenging and resource-limited environments.

Dr Yaseen would like to interview UK-trained civilian surgeons who have voluntarily participated in at least two humanitarian missions to conflict zones, performing surgeries, either directly or by assisting, mentoring, or teaching others. Female surgeons are especially encouraged to participate.
