Surgical Training in the UK

Recent changes to immigration rules mean priority is given to UK & EEA graduates.Training opportunities for international trainees in the UK are therefore limited.

Before applying for a surgical training you should obtain registration with the GMC and the appropriate immigration status. We suggest that you investigate these requirements before you travel. The Home Office can provide information on immigration. 

If you are still considering applying for training in the UK, you should familiarize yourself with the structure of UK training. Websites such as NHS Jobs and BMJ Careers provide information on available posts. 

There are a number of international medical conferences that you can attend, depending on your location. Find out more on The Conference Website.

Please note that the RCS cannot provide assistance with obtaining appointments to training or non-training posts or with arranging clinical attachments and electives.
