RCS welcomes reports that a temporary resolution has been found to the NHS pensions 'tax trap’

Derek Alderson, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said:

“We are delighted that a solution has been found for the current financial year (April 2019-April 2020) that will remove the financial penalties for surgeons who help with Waiting Times Initiatives.

“Abolishing the NHS pensions tax trap was one of the headlines of our 'Manifesto for Surgery' that we published last week. We hope that all the political parties will now get behind this and find a permanent solution.

“As winter approaches, it is crucial that the NHS can operate at full capacity and that consultant surgeons and hospital doctors are not penalised for working extra hours.”
