Appointing new Surgical Specialty Leads in Spinal Neurosurgery and Colorectal Surgery
Spinal Neurosurgery
The Royal College of Surgeons of England and The Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS) are pleased to invite applications for the role of National Surgery Specialty Lead (SSL) for Spinal Neurosurgery.
This new role will complement the existing SSL for neurosurgery (the academic committee chair) and is supported by two associate SSLs (trainees).
The successful candidate will join the Academic Committee of the SBNS and is expected to attend two in-person RCS England Surgical Trials Initiative meetings per year in London. The appointment is for 3 years and may be once-renewable by mutual agreement.
The role will be launched at the upcoming SSL/BNRG meeting at the Royal College of Surgeons of England on 8–9 December 2025.
Applications are sought from current SBNS full members with a spinal neurosurgery practice and clinical trials and research experience.

Colorectal Surgery
We are delighted to invite applications for two new Surgical Specialty Leads (SSLs) in Colorectal Surgery. The Royal College of Surgeons of England has continued their partnership with The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and Bowel Research UK to appoint successors to the roles held by Prof Susan Moug and Mr Dale Vimalachandran, who have recently completed their second three-year terms as SSLs.
Deadline for applications is 12:00 on Friday 19 September. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed at the College on Friday 26 September from 10:30. If you cannot attend in person please make this clear when submitting your application form.
The successful candidates will be members of ACPGBI.
