This new role will complement the existing SSL for neurosurgery (the academic committee chair) and is supported by two associate SSLs (trainees).

The successful candidate will join the Academic Committee of the SBNS and is expected to attend two in person RCS England Surgical Trials Initiative meetings per year in London.

The appointment is for three years and may be once-renewable by mutual agreement.

The role will be launched at the upcoming SSL / BNRG meeting at the Royal College of Surgeons of England on 8-9 December 2025.

Applications are sought from current SBNS full members with a spinal neurosurgery practice and clinical trials and research experience. Please also ensure you submit a letter of support from your head of department along with your application.

The completed application form should be submitted by 12pm on Friday 31 October 2025.

Candidates will be interviewed by the RCS England Director of Clinical Research (Professor Tom Pinkney) and neurosurgery representatives from 1pm on Tuesday 4 November, on Microsoft Teams.

If you would like to discuss the role, please contact the current neurosurgery SSL Professor Michael Jenkinson.
