Surgical Trials Centres
The RCS Surgical Trials Centres are embedded within existing surgical clinical trials units. Core funding has been provided to support the development of new surgical trials and trialists.
The Surgical Trials Centres enable surgeons to deliver clinical studies to assess new surgical techniques, and develop breakthroughs in treatment that will help to deliver new and better care to thousands of patients.
Deliverables for the centres are:
- deliver two new surgical trials per annum;
- develop three new chief investigators over the first three years;
- work with 50 different clinical units and 50 new principle investigators over four years.
This will equate to recruiting 600 surgical patients through each STC over the first four years of the scheme. To date, the majority of the centres are on route to achieving these deliverables and their progress is reviewed annually.
