Professor Helen Rodd FDSRCS and Mr Jimmy Makdissi FDSRCS were elected to the Faculty of Dental Surgery (FDS) Board by the FDS membership at the ballot held on Monday, 11 June. Professor Rodd and Mr Makdissi replace Mr Karl Bishop FRCS FDSRCS and Mr Keith Altman FDSRCS who each completed 10 years of service on the FDS Board in June.

Dr Selina Master MBE FDSRCS retired from a career in Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry in 2015. She currently serves as Junior Vice Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, and is also Vice Chair of the Faculty's Clinical Standards Committee. Dr Master shares her insights from her lifelong commitment to the profession.

Miss Tina Halai BDS MJDF RCS(Eng) is a final year Oral Surgery Registrar in London. In April at the annual Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) Conference held in Edinburgh, Miss Halai won the Patient Safety Prize. She shares how she and her team have transformed her workplace's approach to surgical safety for the better.

Mr Keith Altman FRCS FDSRCS, a long-time member of both the Royal College of Surgeons and the Faculty of Dental Surgery, will demit from the FDS Board in June after serving 10 years as a Board member.

In 2017 the Faculty has awarded almost £300,000 in research funding, in the form of dedicated research fellowships, to allow talented individuals to pursue full time research, or as small grants to pump-prime exciting new projects. A number of these have been awarded in partnership with specialist societies.
