FDS Membership

Joining The Faculty of Dental Surgery means being part of an independent, internationally recognised professional body of The Royal College of Surgeons of England.

We are committed to helping the entire dental team achieve and maintain excellence in practice and patient care. Whether you are based in the UK, or overseas, we are here to support you throughout your career. Further your skills with our courses and qualifications and expand your expertise with our awards, fellowships and leadership opportunities.

Dentists from Europe and overseas can find out more about working in the UK, general or specialist training and studying for a postgraduate degree of diploma in the UK via The National Advice Centre for Postgraduate Dental Education (NACPDE).

Representation

The FDS is an internationally recognised professional body, with a long history of supporting dental professionals both in the UK and internationally. The Faculty has strong relationships with key stakeholder groups, and a dedicated regional network, meaning we can represent your interests no matter your location or career grade.

Publications, news and resources

From the Faculty Dental Journal (FDJ), to the Bulletin and Annals, members of the FDS benefit from a number of award-winning dental and surgical publications. Our members are also kept up to date via monthly e-newsletters, featuring policy, opportunities and developments in dentistry.

Members also have access to thousands of e-journals and online resources, including free access to The Funky Professor anatomy study videos and e-Den, an online and interactive learning resource delivered by the FDS in partnership with Health Education England (HEE).

The Faculty also benefits from use of the RCS England Library and Museum services, including literature searches and access to specimens.

Bursaries, awards and fellowships

The Faculty offers a number of bursaries, awards and fellowships and we have long-standing relationships with a variety of specialty associations. This financial and career support can help you get ahead in your research or training.

Education and exams

We offer a great range of courses for the entire dental team. Members are able to upskill across a variety of sub-specialties, before gaining further qualifications via our exams. Our new MFDS exam provides the perfect springboard into both primary and secondary care.

The FDS post-nominals demonstrate your commitment to the profession and are an internationally recognised qualification.

Leadership opportunities

Members of the FDS are fortunate to benefit from a range of dental and surgical leadership opportunities. Join a committee, stand for the FDS Board or apply for The Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leaders Fellowship with RCS England. The opportunities are endless!
