COVID-19 Q&A: Impact on the BAME community

As the pandemic continues, we have become increasingly aware of the risk that this has posed to our BAME healthcare workers on the front line. It is important for us to understand how COVID-19 is affecting BAME healthcare workers in our healthcare system, and how we can best protect and support you during these challenging times.

For the next installment of our free webinar series on Wednesday 6 May we will be joined by RCS Vice-President Professor, Cliff Shearman, RCS Council member, Professor Farah Bhatti and Professor Tim Cook, Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine (Royal United Hospital NHS Trust, Bath), who has been analysing the data on the deaths of NHS staff from COVID-19.

The session will look at how the pandemic is impacting BAME colleagues, the research into healthcare workers and COVID-19 infections and how we can support the surgical workforce during this challenging time.

Why should you tune in?

Our panel will discuss a wide range of topics including:

  • the current investigation into the factors that are resulting in BAME healthcare workers being at a greater risk to coronavirus;
  • information on how to best protect our BAME workers on the frontline during this pandemic;
  • a discussion regarding diversity in surgery on a wider scale;
  • a Q&A, providing you with the opportunity to ask any burning questions and raise any other key issues.

We want to ensure that we are supporting you and providing you with the most helpful information for yourself and your peers. Please get in touch with our events team with any questions or further topics you would like to be discussed during this session.

For those unable to join the livestream on Wednesday, the recording will be made available on our COVID-19 webinar page.
