Commenting on the Liberal Democrats’ research on children’s dental surgery, Dr Charlotte Eckhardt, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, said:
“We welcome the recovery of dental services after the pandemic and congratulate the community for their hard work. However, if children are waiting over a year in pain to have rotten teeth removed, there clearly remains some very worrying access issues, which the Government needs to address."

The three-year collaboration is another step in RCS England’s pioneering work to shape the Future of Surgery. The aim is to accelerate the safe integration of RAS into healthcare nationally and to support surgeons at all levels of training and experience to become proficient in RAS.

NHS performance data published today (13 July) show the waiting list for NHS consultant-led hospital treatment has grown again to a record 7,472,052. There are also concerns that the recovery of waiting lists for children is not keeping pace with that of adults.

Whilst much of the initial focus around elective recovery has been on reducing the adult surgical waiting list, we are concerned that children’s waiting lists are now increasing at double the rate of adult lists, while surgical activity lags behind adult activity.

The Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) of England Northern Ireland Director Professor Mark Taylor is stepping down after five years at the helm. The Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgeon took up the Northern Ireland College role in 2018 and will formally demit as Northern Ireland Director in September.
